Bill Rolen

June 21, 1929 — March 14, 2015

Waynesville, William "Bill" Rolen, Jr, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late William Thad and Lola Caldwell Rolen and was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Rolen. Bill spent 11 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and then transferred to the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management for 14 years. Bill had a love for nature and a particular affinity for fly fishing. He enjoyed tying his own flies and testing them throughout the beautiful streams of Western North Carolina. Bill's generous heart led to a wealth of friends and several foster children throughout the world. Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jane Basilio Rolen; a daughter, Angela Koss of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; two sons, Randy Rolen and his wife, Christine, of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Steven Rolen of Maggie Valley; sister-in-law, Barbara Gail Rolen of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Christopher Riehl officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. There will time to share remembrances of Bill following the mass at Wells Events and Reception Center. Memorials may be made to PIME Missionaries, 17330 Quincy Street, Detroit, MI 48221-2749.
