Barbara Carter

Barbara Scroggs Carter, 90, of Canton passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.  A native of Haywood County, she was daughter of the late Reigh and Bonnie Lee Johnson Scroggs. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Sidney Carter in 1992.

A secretary for Champion International, Barbara retired after 40 years of service.  She was volunteer with the American Cancer Society and a member of the J.O.Y. Club at Canton First Baptist Church.  She was a lifelong member of Plains United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary, sang in the choir, and participated in women’s Circle.

She is survived by many cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Plains United Methodist Church with Reverend David Green officiating. Interment will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The care of Mrs. Carter has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
