Canton – Audrey Sherrill Burnette, 94, of the Bethel Community, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at her residence.
Audrey was a native of Jackson County and a daughter of the late L.M. “Happy” and May Moore Sherrill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Howard Burnette, who died in 2017 and a brother, Phillip L. Sherrill. Audrey retired from the Haywood County School system where she taught for 33 years and having taught the fourth and fifth grade at Bethel Elementary School. She enjoyed canning and putting up honey. Audrey was a member of Cruso United Methodist Church, where she was vice president of the United Methodist Women, and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star #254, Sonoma Chapter and her star point was Esther.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Allan Burnette and Phillip Howard Burnette, all of Canton; one sister, Margaret S. Davis and husband, C. Don, of Canton; four grandchildren, Keeden Burnette, Kasee Pressley and her husband, Kolby, Amber and Levi Pressley; and three great-grandchildren, Aurora, Elara and Aura Pressley
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Bethel Community Cemetery with the Reverend Peter Constantian and Ms. Linda Davis officiating.
Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cruso United Methodist Church, 11653 Cruso Road, Canton, NC 28716.
