Alvin "Al" Sebring

January 6, 1928 — September 20, 2020

Maggie Valley, Alvin "Al" Sebring, Jr., 92, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at his residence.

Al was born in Revere, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Alvin and Carolyn Burkhardt Sebring.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Sebring, who died in 2012; and one brother, Robert "Bob" Sebring.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a machine gunner in Germany. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier.  Al had spent the last 26 years of his life as a resident of Haywood County.

He was devoted to his family and loved to joke, read books and solve word games.  He was an avid fan of New England sports teams and proudly taught his nieces and nephews many things about sports and sportsmanship.  Following his retirement, he and his wife lived in Lake Wales, Florida, where he co-formed a baseball team and continued to play one of his favorite sports.

As Al’s last days would prove, he lived his life as he always had, believing it  is important to live life to the fullest with compassion for others and reminding us that “no one is better than you and you are no better than anyone else”.  He encouraged others to always be their best self with compassion until their last day.

Al is survived by his niece, Victoria “Vicki” Moll along with several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
