Zira Plemmons Welch

She was born on Tuesday, June 6, 1939, to the late Devallon Stewart Plemmons and Ova Elizabeth West Plemmons.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Boyd Welch; a sister, Valerie McIntosh; and two brothers, Cameron and Nyal Plemmons

Zira was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished every moment with her precious family and considered them to be her greatest treasures. She loved gardening and was well known for her beautiful flowers. Zira married Jesse Boyd Welch on December 3, 1960, in Canton, North Carolina, and they moved to Asheville where she raised her family and was an active member of Biltmore Baptist Church. When Jesse retired, they moved back to Canton, where she had a blessed life with her children, grandchildren, friends, and church family at Canton First Baptist Church. Zira moved to Moultrie, Georgia in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the transition and fellowship with new friends at Magnolia Manor, and later at Legacy Village of Park Regency.

Zira is survived by her son, Brian Stewart Welch of Canton, NC; her daughter, Celina Welch Barber, and husband, Cecil, of Moultrie GA; and two granddaughters, Christine Louise Barber, and Victoria Lynne Barber.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.  prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church, 208 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
