Wilma N. Davis
Canton – Wilma Sue Nichols Davis, 93, of the Dutch Cove Community, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frank Nichols and Kathryn Smathers Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ki Foy Davis, who died in 2009; their two sons, Terry Lee Davis and Randy Lamar Davis; and grandson, Lee Davis.
Wilma Sue worked for Dr. Carey T. Wells, Jr. as a dental assistant and retired from the Haywood County School system, as a teaching assistant after many years of dedicated service. She was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church where she had served as a teacher in Sunday school and Bible school and participated in the Methodists Women’s Bible Study Groups. Her faith was strong, her spirit contagious and her compassion never-ending. Wilma Sue’s greatest joy came from the Lord Jesus Christ and her greatest happiness came from her children and grandchildren. She was witty; being with her meant fun and laughter! Offering love, support and kindness to all she knew, she was always more interested in the wellbeing of others rather than herself. Her most sincere advice was always “to thine own self be true”.
She is survived by her two daughters, Alana Sue Hamlett and her husband, David and Kila Annette Thompson and her husband, Steve; brother, Charles Harry Nichols; daughters-in-law, Michelle Davis and Rosa Bentz (Richard); nine grandchildren, Kile Davis (Wendy), Austin Thompson (Rachel), Amy Peterson (Jeff), Heath Hamlett, Dr. Rachel Davis Tobey (A.J.), Lamara Davis, Marea Davis French, Allen and Solomon Ki Davis; ten great-grandchildren, Alex and Dawson Davis, Andrew Peterson (Holly), Max and Will Thompson, Kathryn French, D’Asia White, Zahra and Aurora Tobey, and Greer Black; five step-great grandchildren, Zachary, Meredith, and Rachel Andrews, Tristen and Cooper Hinson; and a soon to be great-great-grandson, Ronin Peterson; several nieces and nephews; and many who considered her their second-Mother.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Steve Thompson, David Hamlett, Kile Davis, Heath Hamlett, Austin Thompson, Andrew Peterson, Jeff Peterson, Dawson Davis, A. J. Tobey, Max and Will Thompson.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Four Seasons Hospice.
Memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
The care of Mrs. Davis has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.
