William "Burt" Wiggins

December 28, 1934 — June 15, 2022

Waynesville, William Burton "Burt" Wiggins of Haywood County went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the age of 87.  Burt was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was the son of the late Wayne and Audrey Wiggins; in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice O. Wiggins; brothers, Johnny and Jim Wiggins.  Burt grew up in Mills River with eight brothers and sisters.  He proudly served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Screaming Eagles.  After returning home he went to work with the NCDOT where he worked until he started WNC Paving, Inc. in 1959.  Burt also started Aggregate Products on Allens Creek Road in the 70’s.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and pack trips on horseback.  Burt loved and cared for his family and was always there if anybody needed him.

Left to celebrate his life are his two sons, William B. Wiggins, Jr. (Bill) and Robert O. Wiggins (Bob), and his wife, Laurie; brothers and sisters, Barbara Sluder, Mac Wiggins, Waynette Owens, Ruth Wood, Emily Denton (John) and Earl Wiggins; his grandchildren, Anna Wrenn (Jackson), Ellie Buzyan (Tim), Will Wiggins, Molly Wiggins, M.D., Maggie Wiggins and Mark Wiggins; and one great-grandchild, Jack Wrenn.

A private graveside service will be held.  Serving as pallbearers will be Will Wiggins, Mark Wiggins, John W. Wiggins, Matthew Wiggins, Joe Owens and John L. Denton.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care, 13 Haywood Office Park, Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.

"God Saw You Getting Tired" God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me".  With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay.  A Golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest.  God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

The care of Mr. Wiggins has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
