William "Bill" Stewart, born July 20, 1938, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 88. Bill’s long and full life was marked by devotion to his family and a steadfast resilience.
He was the cherished son of the late Jack and Josphine York Stewart. Bill is reunited in rest with his beloved wife, Thelma Grooms Stewart, and his sisters Lela Kuykendal and Lona Stewart, who preceded him in death.
Bill’s legacy lives on in his loving family. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Jill Underwood (John), and his son, Randy Stewart (Sheila). His sister, Viola Carter, also survives him and will hold dear the bond they shared throughout their lives. His warmth and wisdom also enriched the lives of his grandchildren: Cassie Laney (Josh), Caleb Underwood (Emily), and Jacob Underwood (Rachel). Bill’s influence extended to another generation—his great-grandchildren, Whittier, Colton, Zachary, Annabelle, Hannah, Addie, Georgia, and Amelia, who will carry forward his memory and the values he embodied.
Throughout his eighty-eight years, Bill exemplified the values of integrity, generosity, and quiet strength. He is remembered for his unwavering support, wise counsel, and the kindness he extended not just to those within his familial circle but also to those fortunate enough to cross his path. His laughter, guidance, and unwavering commitment remain treasured gifts to his family and friends. He is a member of Connection Point Church of God in Woodfin. Bill loved collecting his Indian relics & arrowheads, his cat and was well known to be a jokester.
