Maggie Valley, William Lee Sutton, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Billy and Florence Moody Sutton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Conley, Marvin and Ed Sutton; and one sister, Willie Mae Joyner. William was first and foremost a man of the mountains. A passion that stems from his Cherokee heritage. In his early years, he would migrate from Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina working the citrus groves and fields. After nearly 40 years he utilized his talents as an entrepreneur and became a successful self-employed businessman. It became apparent at a very young age, William was blessed with a God-given gift of vision and determination. When William envisioned a project, he was able to plan and implement every time. His word was his bond, and due to his compassionate heart and loving spirit, he never met a stranger. William was married to his soulmate, Mrs. Irene Caldwell Sutton, for 66 years of Cataloochee Valley. Together they were blessed with their greatest gift in life, their one and only grandchild, Whitney Pritchard. William will forever be a part of these beautiful mountains, and his legend and love will never be forgotten.
William is survived by this wife, Irene Caldwell Sutton, of Maggie Valley; two daughters, Rita Sutton, and Tammy Sutton, (Dale Rowden), all of Maggie Valley; a sister-in-law, Jean Sutton, of Maggie Valley; one granddaughter, Whitney Pritchard; and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
