Obituary

William “Dean” Miller, 81, of Waynesville, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026, following a brief illness.

A native of Haywood County, Dean was born on December 17, 1944. He was a devoted husband, father, and proud veteran who lived a life rooted in hard work, faith, and love for the outdoors. Dean honorably served his country in the United States National Guard as an expert Marksman. Later, Dean then worked as an electrician for Champion International for over 45 years.

Dean was a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved woodworking, camping, hunting, and fishing. One of his most meaningful experiences was traveling to Alaska for work with “Campers on Mission” alongside his beloved wife, Reta. Together, they shared many adventures and built a life centered around family and faith. Dean and wife Reta were currently attending Maggie Valley First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Reta Seay Miller; his children, Angela Harris (Jeffrey) and Mark Miller (Julisa); stepdaughters, Necole Payne and Alea Ohmart; sisters, Ilene Willett, June McCracken (Thad), and Donna Plemmons (Davis); as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members who will cherish his memory.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Maggie Valley First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Willett and Rev. Glenn Brown officiating.

Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville has been entrusted with William Dean Miller’s care.
