A native and lifelong resident of Waynesville, Gene was born on October 26, 1939, to the late John Vernon Anders and Geneva Affie Knight Anders.
Gene earned his G.E.D. through Haywood Community College, an accomplishment that served him well throughout his life. He worked as a technician and welder, specializing in vehicles. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 10 years and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Gene also had a deep love of music, playing guitar and singing with his group and traveling to other communities to share their music. He was a devoted husband who took pride in caring for his home and was always good to others.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Lonny Anders and Johnny Anders, Jr., and his sister, Carolyn Anders Medford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara White Anders, and his sister, Jo Ellen Anders Arrington.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Skyland Terrace and Rehabilitation and Four Seasons Hospice for their care and support. Special thanks are also extended to Terry Ledford for his help around the home and to Jo Ellen Arrington for her constant presence and much-appreciated care.
