Way Mease, Jr.

Canton - Way Medford Mease, Jr., 92, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home & Rehabilitation.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Way Medford Mease, Sr. and Althea Henson Mease. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Cook Mease, who died in 2017; and a sister, Nancy Blazer Herren. Way was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. He retired as office manager from the National Climatic Center in 1981.

He is survived by three daughters, Myra Ann Brown (Joseph) of Black Mountain, Joy Elaine Allen (Patrick McManus), of Hephzibah, Georgia, and Lycia Carol Murray (Scott) of Canton; two sisters, Dorothy McCracken of Clyde and Margaret Husnian of Candler; one brother, Charles Mease of Fletcher; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Matt Rhea and Reverend Scott Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
