Wanda Sue Benson

August 7, 1954 — April 25, 2025

Hendersonville

Wanda Sue Benson, a beloved member of the Dana community of Hendersonville and a cherished family member and friend, departed from this world on April 25, 2025. Born on August 7, 1954, in Buncombe County, she was a radiant light in the lives of those who knew her.

Wanda's career as a packer for Wilsonart in Fletcher reflected her persistence and dedication, qualities she carried into her retirement in 2018. Throughout her life, she approached every challenge with a cheerful smile, never letting adversity dampen her spirit. Known for her laughter and warmth, Wanda was a beacon of positivity, often lifting the spirits of those around her. She embraced life with a heartfelt resolve, always finding ways to navigate the circumstances that came her way.

Her love for the peacefulness and solitude of life was matched only by her adoration for animals, particularly her cherished cats, who brought joy and companionship into her home. Wanda had an unparalleled ability to appreciate the simple pleasures, spending her days in quiet contemplation and joy.

Wanda was deeply connected to her family, honoring the memory of her parents, Jimmie L. Benson (2015) and Ruby Ann Benson (2016), and mourning the loss of her dear sister, Annette Burgess (2017), with whom she shared a special bond. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Toby Burgess, who along with her special friends—Dawn Plemmons, Steve Pridmore, Angela Brown, and Lisa Marrow—will forever hold Wanda’s memory close to their hearts.

A graveside service to celebrate Wanda’s life will be held on May 7, 2025, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, beginning at 10:00 AM. Reverend Harold Laflin will be officiating. Those who knew Wanda are invited to join in remembering a woman whose joy in life was infectious and whose contributions to the lives of her friends and family will be cherished eternally.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Wanda Benson's memory to the Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC 28806; or to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue online at www.bwar.org

Wanda Sue Benson may have left this earthly realm, but the love, laughter, and light she shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The care for Ms. Benson has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
