Walter Caldwell

Waynesville, Walter Boone Caldwell, age 75, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Harris Regional Hospital.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lush and Maggie Caldwell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Caldwell who died in 2004; brother, Riley Caldwell; two sisters, Bertha Sutton and Dorothy Messer. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Dayco Corporation with 31 years of service. He was raised in Haywood County, Walt was the last child born in Cataloochee Valley. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting bear with his son and grandson all over North Carolina. Walt was also an avid fisherman.

Walter is survived by his wife of 9 ½ years, Cathy Caldwell; son, Larry Boone Caldwell, of Clyde; daughter, Nancy Caldwell, Waynesville; one grandson, Cameron Caldwell; two brothers, Stokey Caldwell (Geraldine) and L.C. Caldwell (Cat), all of Maggie Valley; three sisters, Irene Sutton (William), of Maggie Valley, Nettie Hannah, and Sally Messer (Buck), all of Waynesville; many beloved nieces and nephews; and finally his long time bear hunting buddies.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Trantham officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
