Wade Howell, Jr.

"1941 – 2015" Canton – Wade Stanley Howell, Jr., age 73 passed away December 4, 2015 at his residence. A native of Swain County, he was a son of the late Reverend Wade Stanley and Eugenia Underwood Howell. Wade was a 1961 graduate of Reynolds High School in Canton and a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He retired in 2005 from Blue Ridge Paper with over 30 years of service and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Wade was an avid golfer. He is survived by a son, Matthew Rich of Weaverville; one brother, Fredrick Ritchie Howell (Maxine), Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Alice Leigh (William), of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and special first cousins along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Robert C. Williams and the Reverend Phyllis J. Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Mr. Howell will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 12:00 noon. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
