Vergie Lee Clark Williams, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence in Buncombe County on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. She was born on February 16, 1923 in Haywood County. Mrs. Williams was an extraordinary woman who will be remembered for her significant contributions to both her professional career and personal relationships.

In her professional life, Mrs. Williams dedicated over 30 years of service as an audit supervisor for Sears and Roebuck. Her unwavering commitment and exceptional work ethic led to a successful career. In 1981, she retired from Sears and Roebuck, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of professionalism and dedication.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Williams was deeply committed to education. She obtained an Associate Degree which enriched her knowledge and allowed her to thrive in all aspects of her life.

Mrs. Vergie Clark Williams touched the lives of many through her kindness, humility, and unwavering support for family and friends. Those who had the privilege of knowing her were inspired by her compassion and warmth.

Mrs. Williams is survived by one sister, Melita Burnette of Candler; several beloved nieces and nephews; as well as a dear family friend, Elizabeth Burrece. They mourn the loss of an exceptional woman who brought so much joy into their lives.

During this time of mourning, friends and family will gather to honor the memory of Mrs. Vergie Clark Williams at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Candler, North Carolina. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024. Mrs. Williams was the oldest member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She leaves a long and honorable legacy of service to the church.    

In remembrance of Vergie Clark Williams, her family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time.  A special thanks to the entire staff of CarePartners Hospice for the care given to Mrs. Williams. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her.

Mrs. Williams now rests in eternal peace, joining her parents, Gorman and Lillie Anders Clark.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Marion Williams, who passed away in 2007; two sisters, Gladys Wilson and Louise Israel; and two brothers, Charles (Bud) Clark and Doyle Clark.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Pleasant Hill UNC Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2312 Smokey Park Highway, Candler, NC  28715.


We cherish the memories created with Mrs. Vergie Clark Williams and extend our deepest condolences to those who mourn her loss. Her legacy will continue to inspire us all to live with kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to our loved ones.
