Vera Green

Vera Evans Green, age 80, of Cruso Road, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Herbert and Sue Galloway Evans. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, Clin, Richard, and Ross Evans; and two sisters, Velma Seay and Hilda Ballard. She was a member of Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church. Vera loved watching the Braves, gardening, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From 1966 - 1979, Vera and Robert owned and operated Cruso Grocery and then 20 years of flea marketing. She will always have a special place in her heart for her husband and companion, Robert. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Robert Arthur Green, she is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Henson and her husband, Larry, of Canton; a son, Ray Green, and his wife, Dinah, of Cruso; five sisters, Wilma Teague of Canton, Louise Surratt and her husband, Willie, of Swannanoa, and Sarah Branch, Ann Dortmundt, and Mary Ruth Ray and her husband, Irvine, all of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Julie Ann Green Grasty and her husband, Mike, of Waynesville and James Ray Green of Cruso; two step-grandchildren, Angela Porter and her husband, Nick, of Canton and Larry Eugene McCall and his wife, Lyvonne, of Cruso; two great-grandchildren, Christina Elizabeth Grasty and Alma Brooke-Taylor Grasty; six step great-grandchildren; eight step great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jake Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
