Canton - Vera Nix Brown, age 82 formerly of Substation Road died Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Tar River Nursing Home in Greenville, NC.

She was a native of Oconee County SC and had resided in Haywood County for many years prior to moving to Greenville. She was the daughter of the late William F. and Zadie McJunkin Nix. Mrs.Brown was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and a former employee of Champion International. She was preceded in death by her husband William Christopher Brown who died in 1993 and also a son James M. Brown who died in 1996.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Chris Griffin of Fuquay- Varina, NC, Claire Grossnickle and her husband William of Greenville, NC and a daughter-in-law Mary Lou Brown of Greenville, NC; 2 sisters Sarah Hipps and Mildred Whitted, both of Canton, 1 brother Bill Nix of Canton, six grandchildren Chuck Blalock and wife Karen; David Blalock and wife Gina, all of Raleigh, Jimmy Brown and wife Shelly of Plymouth, NC
Gary Griffin and wife Ginger; and Michael Griffin all of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Laura Smith and husband Brian of Winterville, NC. There are 9 great-grandchildren; Melissa, Chase, Zachary, Victoria, Keaton, Colin, Holly, Joshua and Jordan.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, November 30, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 12:30pm until 1:45pm. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
