Velvie Shook

Velvie Brown "Veg" Shook, age 75, formerly of Crawford Creek in the Cruso Community, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. She was a native of Madison County and was the daughter of the late Horace and Lula Moore Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Lee Shook, who died in 1995, and by two brothers and a sister. She retired from Dayco in 1990 with 21 years of service, was a former employee of Mills Manufacturing in Asheville and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church. Velvie is survived by a twin sister, Belvie King and her husband, Gordon, of Leicester, and four other sisters, Osie Breece of Canton, Dorothy Clark of Denton, NC, Artie Johnson of Cullman, Al and Stella Novank and her husband, Emory, of Cullman, Al; a brother, Everett and his wife, Edith, of Cruso and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at East Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home of Gordon and Belvie King. Memorials may be made to Cruso Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Clarence Morrow, 73 Sharp Mountain Road, Canton, NC 28716. Flowers will be appreciated as well.
