Velma Faye Snelson

Velma Faye Snelson, known to her loved ones as Faye, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 29, 1932, in Cocke County, Tennessee. Faye was the daughter of the late O.J. and Clydia Gregory Perryman.

Faye had a fulfilling career in the retail industry. She managed Cato Clothing in Canton for several years before moving on to manage Gordon Jewelers of Canton. Later, she joined Alan Lawrence Jewelers in Waynesville and Asheville.  Faye dedicated many years to her work and ultimately retired from J.C. Penney Fine Jewelers in Asheville.  Education held great importance for Faye, and she graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC in 1950.

Faye was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband, Wiley, and camping at Myrtle Beach.  She had a love for dogs, leaving behind her faithful friend, “Chelsi”.  She was a faithful member of West Canton Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and worked on the library committee for many years. 

Faye had a loving family surrounding her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas "Wiley" Snelson, who passed away in 2010, and one brother, Earl Perryman of Charlotte, NC.

Left to cherish Faye's memory are her daughter Pat Jackson of Ft. Worth, Texas; son Randy Snelson (Krizza Mae) of Canton, NC; two grandchildren Stephanie Jackson Spivey (Steve) and Eric Christopher Jackson (Lisa); as well as six great-grandchildren: Shannon Moore, Shelbi Kreis, Sheridan Spivey, Cody Jackson, Bryce Jackson, and Brooks Jackson. Faye was also survived by several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Faye will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her family and her unwavering love and support for them throughout their lives. Her warm heart and caring nature made a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her.

To honor her life and celebrate her memory, visitation services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Canton, NC. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeff Holder officiating.  Burial will follow at Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made in honor of Faye's memory to West Canton Baptist Church, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC  28716.

Faye's departure leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and caring demeanor will forever be missed. May she rest in peace and may her cherished memories bring comfort to those who mourn her loss.
