Canton – Vanise Henson, 80, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Earl and Bessie Nations Henson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Henson, who died in 2018; a daughter, Karen Henson; one son, Tracy Henson; four brothers, Vennoy, Vernon, Verlyn and Valgene “Butch” Henson; and three sisters, Virginia Blythe, Annie Henson and Violet Snyder. Vanise was a past vice president of Smoky Mountain Local 507 and was a team member of the employee based buy-out from Champion to Blue Ridge. He enjoyed NASCAR, gardening, collecting knives, Duke Basketball and his grandchildren were his greatest joy.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelley Henson Tyler (Robert) of Canton; four grandchildren, Caleb Henson (Celenda Chapman), Andrew Henson (Emma Treadway), all of Canton, Justin Tyler (Angelica), of Candler, and Jordan Tyler (Caley Edlington) of Canton; and two great-grandchildren, Molly Henson and Landon Smathers.
A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road with the Reverend Aryn Williams-Ruebel officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
