Thomas Anthony Partain, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went Home to his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2025. Born on March 14, 1957, in Newport, Rhode Island, he led a life full of love, humor, and service to both his family and country.
In June 1975, Thomas selflessly joined the United States Army, honorably serving until June 1981. His dedication to his nation was unwavering, and he embodied the spirit of service throughout his life. After his time in the US Army, Thomas began sharing his amazing woodworking talents with others. He created his own business from scratch, Thomas’ Custom Woodworks; he was eager and thrilled to continue serving others. Thomas was thankful for all the wonderful friendships he made along the way.
Thomas is remembered for his strong faith and his deep commitment to his family, always urging them to turn to the Lord and the Bible. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, from playing the guitar to puffing on his tobacco pipe while engrossed in a good movie. He was an avid lover of literature, particularly the "Lord of the Rings" series, and he always dreamed of completing the Appalachian Trail, a testament to his adventurous spirit.
Fly-fishing held a special place in his heart, where he found joy in the serenity of nature, often taking his children out to the river, teaching them the art of patience and practice. He was known to go above and beyond for his loved ones, demonstrating his unwavering support and guidance.
Thomas leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan Perry Partain, along with his cherished children, April Partain Craft (Bill), Brian Partain (Caryn), and Jeremiah Partain. His legacy continues through his loving grandchildren, Destin Partain, Piper Partain, , Flora Craft, and the eagerly anticipated arrival of baby Oliver Craft and his adored great-grandchild, Audriella Partain. Thomas also leaves behind his sisters, Robin Rice (David), Wenona Rogers (Doyle), and Elodia LaFalce (Tony), and stepmother Mary Anne Partain.
He reunited in Heaven with his mother, Frankie Church, and his father, Tommy Partain.
In lieu of flowers, the Partain family deeply encourages that memorial donations may be made to Project Healing Waters; a mission dedicated to assisting Veterans and active military personnel in need through fly-fishing.
A graveside service will be held at Snow Hill United Methodist Church in Candler, North Carolina, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 2 pm, with Pastor Derrick McCarson officiating and Military Honors provided by the US Army.
The family invites all who knew and cared for Thomas to join them in honoring his remarkable life and the enduring impact he had on everyone around him.
The care of Mr. Partain has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton, North Carolina.
