Thomas Ray Knapp, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2025, in Buncombe County, NC, where he was born on October 19, 1944. He was 81 years old.
Thomas dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career, working initially with BASF until its closure and subsequently as a maintenance mechanic for MilkCo, where he earned recognition for over 25 years of committed service. His determination to succeed was reflected not only in his work but also in his personal pursuit of knowledge, culminating in earning his G.E.D. from A-B Tech.
Family was the cornerstone of Thomas's life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Frances Warren Knapp. Together, they navigated the rich tapestry of life and parenthood, nurturing their sons, Tommy Knapp, Jr. (Joan) of Asheville, and Brian Knapp (Traci) of Clyde, both of whom held a special place in his heart. Thomas and Frances celebrated the joy of welcoming their second son later in life, dedicating themselves to attending every sports event and activity that Brian participated in, fostering memories that will forever resonate within their family.
Thomas was known for his warm personality, lovingly remembered by his family, who fondly expressed, "He was The Best!" He was a great father and husband, and his nurturing spirit extended to being an exceptional caregiver to Frances. His love for the outdoors was evident in the countless hours spent at Lake Fontana, where the joys of boating and fishing brought him peace and happiness. A man of stories, Thomas delighted in reminiscing about days gone by and sharing tales that reflected his rich life experiences.
In addition to his wife and children, he is also survived by his sister, Betty Buckner of Georgia, his nephew, Robert Knapp (Renay) of Horseshoe, and his beloved dog, Sadie.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Knapp and Flossie Mae Bracken Knapp, as well as several siblings who will continue to hold a special place in his family's memories.
The legacy of Thomas Ray Knapp, with his profound impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him, will forever be embraced by his loved ones. His life, marked by love, dedication, and the joy he brought to others, reminds us all of the importance of family, the beauty of the outdoors, and the value of shared stories.
Thomas's love and dedication to his family never faltered. A hand-written letter was discovered among his personal items, leaving behind one last message of faith, hope, and love:
"From: Thomas Knapp
To: My Family
After I'm gone I want you all to mourn for me and miss me. Soon after I want you to just remember me. Try to remember me for some of the best times.
I want you all to be ready to meet me in Heaven. Because I haven't lived right and set an example for you, The Lord says whosoever believes in The Gospel of Christ in is heart will be saved. I have always believed that Jesus lived and was sacrificed for our sins.
Remember my wonderful wife and mother. Comfort her while she waits to see us all in Heaven.
Remember that Jesus saves and believe.
Forgive me for all wrongs."
