Waynesville, Tanya Mathis, age 50, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Memorial Mission Campus.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of Eddie Alvin and Ernestine Mathis. Tanya was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Reverend Ernest Messer and Clursa Messer; paternal grandparents Alvin and Edna Mathis. She received her associates in Early Childhood Education from Haywood Community College. Tanya loved her grandchildren and had a strong Christian Faith. She enjoyed attending concerts, listening to music, and going to the beach. Tanya lived her life for her family and her family meant everything to her.
In addition to her parents Eddie "Pop" and Ernestine "Nan" Mathis, she is survived by three daughters, Mary Cogdill and Casey Codgill (Kyle Bass), all of Waynesville and JesseAnne Cogdill (Bryan Tenerowicz) of Marion; sister Stephanie Mathis, and her son, Justin Spann, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Natalie Cogdill, Abalyn and Theodore Cheshire, Maddox and Oliver Youngdeer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Mehaffey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
The care of Ms. Mathis has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
