Suzanne Gould

Waynesville- Suzanne Mauze Gould, age 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was born in Richmond, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Joseph Layton and Isabelle Dunn Mauze, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Graham Ballard Barefoot, III. Suzanne moved to Haywood County in 1990 to be closer to her mother. She was a devoted wife and a supportive mother to her children, grandchildren and extended family. She served her community through the Junior League, the American Heart Association, as a volunteer for HART and as a Stephen Minister. She was known for her positive spirit, unfailing courage and her inspiration to others. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Suzanne Barefoot Meacham of Statesville, Elizabeth Barefoot Vinson and her husband, Mark of Williamsburg, VA, Layton Mauze Barefoot of Wilmington and Eleanor Barefoot Smythe and her husband, Gus of Charleston, SC; her brothers, J. Layton Mauze, III and his wife, Harriett of Gastonia, George Mauze and his wife, Ann of San Migel, Mexico and James F. Mauze and his wife, Sonnie of Clayton, MO; her step-children, Katharine Power and her husband, Patrick of Wetherfield, CT, Martha Heinkel and her husband, Bob of Westfield, NJ and Anne Gould of Lewisville; and her thirteen grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. A private family memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Waynesville on March 27, 2007 with the Reverend J. Layton Mauze officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Arts Regional Theatre, 250 Pigeon Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or the charity of one's choice.
