Sue Smith

May 20, 1927 — October 17, 2022

Clyde

Clyde - Sue Case Smith, 95, of Clyde, North Carolina went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 17, 2022.  Sue was born on May 20, 1927 to the late Carl and Rosa Stepp Case.

Sue was a dedicated Christian and she joyfully served God all her life.  Her caring spirit and generous heart were felt by anyone who knew her.  She was the last living charter member of the Clyde Wesleyan Church and attended Lakeview Church of the Nazarene.  Sue held many positions in both churches over the years including Sunday school teacher, board member, mission’s director, and choir member.  For many years, Sue would host any visiting evangelist or missionary in her home.  She had the true gift of hospitality.  Sue was dedicated in sharing the love of Christ to everyone she met.

For many years, she helped her husband, Ed, run their used car business, Smith’s Used Cars, in Clyde, NC.  She enjoyed traveling and she and Ed took many trips together across the years.  One of her many talents included cooking, especially biscuits, homemade applesauce, asparagus casserole and creamed corn.  She also had a great ability to sew and crochet almost anything from a pattern or by sight. She had a great love for anything to do with housekeeping and good naturedly took a lot of kidding for it from her family and friends.  Sue was a kind, loving and supportive mother and grandmother. Her spiritual knowledge and guidance were the foundation of her family.  Sue (Mother, Mamaw) loved her family and was a true prayer warrior for each one of them. She was always an enthusiastic grandmother and treasured each moment she could spend building memories with her family.  She is deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Edward Smith for 66 years.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hulin Case; sisters, Dorothy Allison and Mildred Lindsey; and grandson-in-law, Rusty Trull.

Sue was a loving mother to her son, Dane Smith (Linda); a devoted grandmother to her beloved grandchildren, Dana Smith Trull and Pastor Tracy Smith (Kim); her great-grandchildren, Danelle Trull Edwards (Brian), Amy Trull Burgess (Bobby), Casey Trull (Patricia), Taylor Smith Medlin (Andrew), Tucker Smith and Josiah Smith; and her great-great grandchildren, Cadence and Emmy Edwards, Cohen Trull and Charlie Burgess.  Sue also leaves behind many much-loved nieces and nephews.

You ran the race set out before you. You are now resting in the arms of our loving Father… You finished well.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in Waynesville with Pastor Tracy Smith and Pastor Tim Pullin officiating.
