Sra Terry Norton

July 21, 1969 — July 18, 2022

Canton

Canton - SrA Terry A. Norton, 52, went to his heavenly home on July 18, 2022, after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion and firm belief in God, his family and his church supported him during his struggles and ultimately brought him peace.

Terry was immersed in his Christian beliefs and in being a member of High Street Baptist Church. The time spent at High Street Baptist Church, he was surrounded and supported by what became a part of his extended family and his strength. His dedication to his faith was unbreakable as he would say that Jesus had bought and paid for his one-way ticket to Heaven. His prayer was for others to come to know the Lord, thy God as their own personal Savior. Terry enjoyed the men’s work day at church, fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters in Christ, and studying the word of God.

SrA Terry Norton was born on July 21, 1969 in Melbourne, Florida to Jerry Howard Norton and Patricia Shiver Norton. After the divorce of his parents, Terry was raised in Mary Ester, Fl. by Jerry H. Norton and Royce Mitchell Norton (Green). Terry graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1987. He enlisted in the U.S. Airforce in March of 1988, where he completed 10 years of active duty. He was stationed in Spain for 3 ½ years.  During his enlistment, he was proud of his contribution during the Gulf War in helping defend our country and freedom. When returning stateside, Terry was stationed in Charleston, S.C. until he was honorably discharged in March of 1998. Afterward he moved to Buncombe, N.C. before making Canton N.C. his home. Terry turned to a career in law enforcement where he became a correctional officer for NC Department of Corrections. During his career with NCDPS, Terry reenlisted in the Air Force National Guard and served an additional year with an honorable discharge. Terry retired from the Department of Public Safety with 20 years of service after his diagnosis of cancer. He was known to his co-workers and friends as “I-40 Norty”.
