Shirley Ann Childers, age 83, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on April 11, 2026, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home.

A native of Buncombe County, Shirley was born on August 22, 1942, to the late Henry Childers and Bertha Dills Childers.

Shirley graduated from Enka High School, Class of 1961. After high school, Shirley worked at different jobs and traveled with her military husband before settling back in East Asheville to work for Shoney’s for 30 years. Shirley made many friends and fond memories during this time.

Shirley was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Candler.

Preceding Shirley in death, along with her parents, were siblings, brothers Eugene and Max, and sisters Sarah Dotson and Lou Ellen Street.

Surviving is brother Morris Childers (Vickie) of Candler and sister Emily Hamby of Georgia along with several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nursing staff at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home for their support and care during Shirleys stay there.

Graveside service will be held at Pisgah View Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Allen Rash officiating where burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers monetary donations can be made to the Mission Fund at Trinty Baptist Church in Asheville.

Wells Funeral Home of Canton has been entrusted with Shirley Ann Childers care.
