Shirley Arrington

Waynesville, Shirley Mae Arrington, age 74, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 in Austin, Texas.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Way and Tennie Kirkpatrick Arrington.  Shirley was preceded in death by four sisters, Patsy Mathews, Peggy Tabor, Helen West and Marcene Calhoun; and three brothers, Hartsel, James and Boyd Arrington.  She resided for 40 years in Florida and more recently in Texas and retired from the United States Postal service with 40 years of service.  Shirley enjoyed traveling to tennis tournaments and watching them on TV, spending time with family and her yearly visits to North Carolina during Folkmoot.  She and her sister, Marcene were avid McDonald’s filet of fish fans.  Shirley was a member of the Palm Beach County Deaf Club.

Shirley is survived by several nieces and nephews and her caregiver and special friend, Karen Washington.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Panther Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ronald Greene officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
