Canton

Shelia Ann Fouts, a dedicated homemaker and devoted family woman, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Buncombe County. Born on December 19, 1941, in Macon County, to the late Joseph and Ruth Guyer Tallent, Shelia led a life filled with love, compassion, and strong family bonds. She will be remembered for her nurturing nature and the immense pride she took in raising her three beloved sons.

In her role as a homemaker, Shelia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A lover of nature and the outdoors, she cherished spending time at Lake Chatuge, where she relished in the serenity it provided. Shelia had a knack for cultivating beautiful flowers and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. She also possessed a talent for canning and preserving food, ensuring that her family always enjoyed delicious homemade treats. Above all else, Shelia's top priority was taking care of her family—her unwavering love and support were evident in the cherished memories they shared together.

Shelia had an infectious spirit that attracted many friends throughout her life. She delighted in their company and cherished moments spent porch sitting and observing the graceful flight of birds. Her warm presence and genuine interest in others will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A devout Christian woman, Shelia was an active member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church for an astounding 58 years. With unwavering faith as her guiding light, she served as the church treasurer for five decades—a testament to her dedication and commitment to her community.

Shelia leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be carried in the hearts of those who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Bateman; and four brothers Marshall, Paul, Boyd, and Lewis Tallent.

Sheila is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Albert "Ed" Fouts. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. She is also survived by her three adoring sons: Gary Fouts (Janet) of Canton, Doug Fouts (Darlene) of Hendersonville, and Randy Fouts (Kathy) of Canton. Shelia's love extended to her seven grandchildren: Cody Fouts (Malory), Isaac Fouts (Jessica), Shanna Dean (Jimmy), Colton Fouts (Ali), Caleb Fouts (Morgan), Blake Turner (Amanda), and Kyler Fouts. She was also blessed with 12 precious great-grandchildren: Kortland, Kamryn, James, Jackson, Jude, Malachi, Ezekiel, Eva, Lily, Layknn, Brantley, and Mathias. Shelia also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

In honor of Shelia's life and the impact she had on those around her, a Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Doug Henson and the Reverend Danny Long officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral  home.
