Sheila Brown

Waynesville NC - Sheila J. Brown passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Sheila was born to the late Dorothy J. Papineau and John B. Lawver on January 21, 1943 in Governeur, New York. She left Antwerp, NY in 1961 for airline reservationist school in New York City, where she met and married the love of her life in 1964, the late James T. Brown.

She had successful careers in travel, event management, real estate and various customer service positions in New York and Vermont, but especially loved her time with the Waynesville Inn and Habitat for Humanity Restore. Her love for family and friends knew no boundaries; second only to that was Sheila’s love of caretaking and feeding all of her people and her desire to decorate the world in vibrant pops of color.

She is survived by her three daughters, Cristin (Jeff) Stebelton, Laura (Jerry) Berry, and Tara Brown (Alden Pellett); grandchildren, Joshua Berry and Kenzie Stebelton; her devoted sister, Tonna (Tex) Thomas;  brothers, Vincent J. Papineau, Jr. and Lance Lawver; sisters, Connie Papineau, Vicky Papineau, and Barbara Papineau; sisters-in-law and lifelong friends, Marilyn Crawford, Beverly (Ron) Duke, and Susan Brown; all of her loving nieces and nephews of whom she was so very proud; her dear friends, William M. Revis, Jr. and Jeanne Culbertson; her friends and neighbors at the Watts Apartments and all those she adopted as family, by loving like only Sheila could.

The care of Mrs. Brown has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.  There will be no services held at this time.
