Obituary

Sarah Burton Kirkpatrick Sutton, 77, of Waynesville, NC, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Cookeville, TN. A native of Haywood County, Sarah is the daughter of the late John and Jane Kirkpatrick. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Joe Henry.

Sarah is a graduate of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. She became an office manager of the optometrist office of Dr. Mark Epley in Cookeville, TN, for 20 years before retiring in 2010. She enjoyed gardening and crochet and loved farm life with their horses and cattle.

Sarah is survived by her husband of 23 years, Marty Sutton; two daughters, Sarah Hyatt Bos (Jim) and Stephanie Hyatt Johnson (Mac); stepdaughter, Sabrina Browning (Scott); stepson, Anthony Sutton; sister, Helen Kirkpatrick Henry; brother, Taylor Kirkpatrick (Debbie); along with her seven grandchildren, Nicole Bos, Gracie and Cale Johnson, Coy Johnson (Savannah), Austin Browning (Jade), Riley and Brannon Sutton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Crabtree United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Reeves officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Following the service, family and friends are invited to Sarah’s home at 114 Mulbrook Lane, Clyde, for light refreshments.


Pallbearers will be Brannon Sutton, Coy and Cale Johnson, Trace Henry and serving as honorary pallbearer is Michael Henry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crabtree United Methodist Church, 5405 Crabtree Road, Clyde, NC 28721.

The care of Mrs. Sutton has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
