Sarah Brown Hagan

May 23, 1927 — July 2, 2019

Sarah Lenox Brown Hagan, 92, of Fairview, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Morgan Lenox.  She grew up living in Enka Village.

Sarah graduated from Mars Hill college in 1947.  Her first job was bookkeeper/typist for American Enka Corporation.  She resigned her job soon after her marriage to Bedford Brown, known to all as Brownie, a young veteran of WWII.  In a few years they became permanent residents of Fairview where they raised their three sons and established many lifelong friendships.  They were blessed to share forty-three years together before the Lord called him home.

Sarah was a gifted pianist and played in church and eventually began giving private piano lessons.  She taught many, many students for over fifty years, taking great pride in the accomplishments of her students and personal interest in each of their lives.

Later in life Sarah was blessed to share a few happy years of marriage with Frank Hagan until his death in 2000.

Throughout her life Sarah was an active member in church.  At the time of her death Trinity of Fairview was her home church where she thoroughly enjoyed the Sonshine Sunday School Class. She served in a Craggy Correctional Center church ministry for several years and also enjoyed volunteering as a greeter at the VA Hospital. Sarah was an enthusiastic person who was energized by the love and fellowship of friends and family.  She loved parties and shared special dinners with her small circle of Birthday Sisters.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by both husbands, Bedford Smith Brown II and Frank Hagan; a son, Bedford Smith Brown III; a sister, Martha (John) Adkins; and a brother, Charles (Kay) Lenox.

Left to cherish her memory are; two sons, William (Joy) Brown, Robert (Joyce) Brown and one “adopted” son, Manuel (Karyn) Franquez, also eight grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Sarah’s funeral service will be held at Trinity of Fairview on Saturday, July 6th.  Visitation is at 1pm with service following at 2:30. Afterwards, the body will be laid to rest at Cane Creek Cemetery until it’s glorious resurrection one day.
