Waynesville-Samuel Medford "Sam" Rhinehart, age 72, of 114 Robinson Street, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Derry and Gurly Roberta Sitton Rhinehart. He was also preceded in death by a son, Samuel Eugene Rhinehart, a daughter, Carolyn Ruth Rhinehart, and a sister, Ida Hance. He was retired from WNC Paving Company. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Callie Kathleen Whitner Rhinehart; two daughters, Sandra Wyatt and Diane Sorrells , both of Waynesville; a son, Robert D. Rhinehart, of Avery County; six sisters, Sally Brown, Eva Williams, Mary Phillips, Gladys Dills, and Patricia Mull, all of Waynesville; two brothers, Robert and Mike Rhinehart, both of Clyde; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart and Reverend Steve Rhinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Plott Cemetery in Saunook. The family received friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2005 at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence.
