Waynesville, Samuel Lawrence Palmer, age 75, of 115 Children Street, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James Charlie and Wilda McElroy Palmer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Lynn Palmer, who passed away in 1968; and four brothers, Fredrick Mason, Charles Judson, Joe Wayne and Luther Neil Palmer. He was a US Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening and attended Ninevah Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Ann Jude Palmer; one daughter, Teri Fincham, of Topeka Kansas; four sons, Donald Palmer and his wife, Donna, of Morganton, John Palmer, Gary Palmer and his wife, Sheila, and Steven Palmer and his wife, Debbie, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Edith Mull of Waynesville and Carolyn Robinson of Canton; one brother, Bob Palmer, of Waynesville; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Ninevah Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Ninevah Baptist Church Building Fund, 931 Country Club Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.
