Samuel Messick, Jr.

Maggie Valley, Samuel Houston Messick, Jr. age 83, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, after a long illness.

Sam was born November 5, 1937, to the late Samuel "Houston" and Abbie Kate Messick.  He was a sweet kindhearted man who never met a stranger, would do anything possible to help others and truly believed there was good in everyone.  If you knew him, you loved him…  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 59 years, Wynell.

Samuel is survived by two daughters, Tina Messick and Tonia Meadows, and her husband, Steve; granddaughter, Tiffany Trythall, and her husband, Jarrad; great-granddaughters, Ava and Addy; sister, Jeanette; brother, Bobby; multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the Haywood Hospice team who provided outstanding care for our sweet Daddy the past year and nine months.  Special thanks to RN Stephanie, CNA Patricia and Chaplin Patrick who have become family.  And most of all, thank you to my sweet sister who essentially functioned as a nurse, CNA, therapist, and whatever Dad needed 24 hours a day.  It was her tireless and unselfish dedication that allowed Daddy to fulfill his wish to stay home.  A special thank you to Faye for everything she has done for us.  Thank you to anyone and everyone who helped Daddy over the years, it means so much to all of us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

The care of Mr. Messick has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
