Waynesville

Waynesville, Samuel Sidney McClure, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Fuller A. and Nora Fortner McClure.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Samuel retired from the United States Air Force after proudly serving for 24 years as Senior Master Sergeant.  After retirement from the USAF, he continued to serve for 20 years in civil service in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Huntsville, Alabama before returning to Haywood County. Samuel was a member of Grandview Baptist Church.

Samuel is survived by his wife; Evelyn Hurst McClure; daughter, Debra Denie (David); son, Douglas McClure (Sharon); two step daughters; sister Gladys Kirkpatrick; four grandsons Hayden, Bryson, Gavin McClure, and Declan Denie; step-grandchildren Jason Crawford, Kimberly Worley, Jennifer Crawford, Dalton Crawford, Madison Worley, Andrew Worley, Madi Jo Crawford, Paige Crawford and Serenity Crawford.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Barry Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grandview Baptist Church 1562 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The care of Mr. McClure has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
