Ruth Walther

August 23, 1914 — January 8, 2003

Ruth Davis Walther, 88, formally of Maggie Valley died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at her home on St. George Island, Florida, surrounded by family. She was a native of Union South Carolina, the daughter of the late Virgil Randolph and Norah Woody Davis. A graduate of Union College, South Carolina, she was a retired elementary school teacher and member of the Literacy Council of Waynesville and an honorary member of the St. George Island Quilters. She is preceded in death by her husband, A. P. Walther who died in 1993, daughter, Marilee Davis Damiano and brother, Lt. Hugh Leon Davis.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Walther Iman of St. George Island, Florida; Harriett Amy Doogan of Atlanta Georga ; one son Alden Pickett Walther, Jr. of Houston, Texas; one sister Harrett Davis Penny of Maggie Valley; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January, 11 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Dr. Robert M. Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, beside her husband, A. P. Walther. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
