Ruth Lola McCall, 98, passed away peacefully at her home on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Madison County, North Carolina, on December 31, 1927, to her beloved parents, Dolph and Texie (Frisbee) Keener.

Ruth attended school through the eighth grade before marrying the love of her life, Bob McCall, in 1948. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three children, Shirley, Jerry, and Donny. Sadly, Donnie preceded her in death in 2005.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who chose to stay home and raise her children, a role she cherished deeply. As her family grew, she found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and treasured every moment spent with them. Her family was truly the center of her world.

Ruth was an amazing cook and fanatical cleaner, ways in which she expressed her love for her family. She especially enjoyed going to the beach with her daughter, Shirley, and loved being on the go and making memories with her family.

Above all, Ruth was a woman of deep faith and devotion who attended Calvary Road Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, loved her family, and lived a life centered around those she held dear. Her loving heart, faithful spirit, wonderful cooking, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Left to mourn Ruth’s passing is her children, Shirley (Samuel) Ferguson; Jerry (Jean Ann) McCall; grandchildren: Jason Ferguson, Jeremy Ferguson; great-grandchildren: Jordan Ferguson, Jayla Ferguson, Caleb Ferguson, and Samantha Jack Ferguson; great-great grandchildren: Lola Messer, Coraline Messer, Finley Messer, Betty Kate Messer, Huck Messer, Carter Walters, Lainey Ruth Walters, and Brynlee Walters; a brother, Larry Keener; and an honorary grandson, Dusty Gibby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McCall; a son, Donnie McCall; and her siblings: Pauline Greene, Jack, Marvin, Margaret, Virginia, JD, and J Harold Keener.

A funeral service will be held in honor of Ruth’s life on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. Officiating will be Pastor John Swanger. Serving as pallbearers, will be Jason Ferguson, Jeremy Ferguson, Taylor Messer, Logan Walters, Caleb Ferguson, and Hunter Trull. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Green Hill Cemetery.

The care of Mrs. Ruth McCall has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
