Canton – Roy Lee Stephenson, 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice & Palliative Care (John F. Keever).
Roy Lee was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Rufus and Virginia Fuller Stephenson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian McFee Stephenson, who died in 2017; and two grandsons, Adam Scott Bennett and Charles William Gross. Roy Lee was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict having served at Ft. Knox, Ft. Sill, and Keesler AFB. He retired in 2000 from Champion International with 39 years of service. Roy Lee may be best remembered for his love to sing to those around him. He was devoted to the Lord, his church, and his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Gross (Ben), Karen Stephenson, and Mary Gail Bennett (Charles); one son, Robert Stephenson (Missy); one sister, Clara Sumner; two brothers, Jerry and Jack Stephenson; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Collins and Reverend Jeremy Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
