Roy "Wayne" Mehaffey, age 80, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Wayne was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and faithful friend. He was a longtime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church on Newfound Road in Leicester, North Carolina.

Wayne had a unique love for old-body cars and trucks. He appreciated their craftsmanship, history, and the memories they carried. Whether admiring a classic vehicle or sharing stories about them, his passion for old automobiles was something everyone who knew him recognized and admired.

More than anything Wayne loved his family. His legacy will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Leroy Mehaffey; his mother, Genevieve Brookshire Mehaffey; and his sister, Wanda Lily Cooper. Surviving is his wife, Monell Shell Mehaffey; his daughter, LaNell Clara Mehaffey; siblings, Buddy David Mehaffey, Van Joseph Mehaffey (wife Chomchi Mehaffey), and Maurice Mehaffey; his grandchildren: Nathan Alexander Quinn (wife Kristin Quinn) Cinnamon Marie Quinn, English Lakota Carrion (Husband Christopher Carrion); and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church 1008 Newfound Road, Leicester NC 28748, Officiating will be Pastor Larry Coates.

The care of Mr. Mehaffey has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
