Ronnie Greene

Ronnie E. Greene, 68, of Canton met his Lord and Savior face to face Tuesday, February 15, 2022 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Blanche Greene; sister, Molly Ingle (Jack), of Canton; and special friend Stacy Frazier along with Kaitlin Boyd (Jacob) and Abby Frazier. He was preceded in death by father, Ernest Greene.

Ronnie retired from Evergreen Packaging in 2019. From an early age he enjoyed working with kids and sharing his faith in God. Whether as a youth leader at Oak Grove Baptist Church or as regional leader of RA’s, he made sure everyone felt welcome and included. Later in life Ronnie developed an interest in grilling and smoking. He used that talent to provide mouth watering BBQ and ribs for many events and fundraisers. His retirement dream was to have a catering business and to travel to BBQ competitions. Many customers depended on him for their holiday meals as he spent his days leading up to holidays smoking hams and turkeys. Even when lung disease kept him from doing what he loved, he continued to get calls from people wanting to buy smoked turkeys.

Ronnie took part in mission trips to other states, as well as Honduras and went on disaster relief trips with Baptist Men disaster teams. Once he was unable to make these trips, he helped with financing trips for others to go and spread the gospel. Although we are already missing him here, we know he is now able to breathe, sing and is praising his Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at High Street Baptist Church, 283 High Street, Canton, NC 28716 with Reverend Chris Willett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International, P.O. Box 1352, Waynesville, NC 28716 and Broyhill Baptist Children’s Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28712.

The care of Mr. Greene has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.
