Roddie Jacobs, 71, of Candler, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Born on November 27, 1954, in Andrews, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Odell and Margaret Day Jacobs.

Roddie lived a life marked by laughter, hard work, generosity, and quiet resilience. As a young man, he was known as the class clown at Enka High School, always ready with a joke to brighten someone's day. While his sense of humor made him memorable to classmates, he was equally dedicated, serving in the school's ROTC program and driving a school bus before graduation.

Following high school, Roddie answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served honorably as a Military Police officer while stationed in Germany, carrying with him the values of duty and service throughout the rest of his life.

After returning home, Roddie built a career as a skilled diesel mechanic and welder, working for Vulcan Materials and later Taylor & Murphy. He took pride in honest work and was respected for the knowledge and craftsmanship he brought to every job.

Outside of work, Roddie found his greatest joy in simple pleasures. He loved casting a line into a mountain stream in search of trout and spent countless hours tending his garden. Tomatoes, blueberries, beans, corn, and many other vegetables flourished under his care. The true reward, however, wasn't the harvest itself, it was sharing it. Whether it was jars of homemade salsa, sweet jellies, or freshly canned vegetables, Roddie delighted in giving away the fruits of his labor to family, friends, neighbors, and just about anyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

As his health began to decline, Roddie faced life's challenges with determination and grace. His sister, Carolyn, lovingly became his primary caregiver, faithfully helping him with daily tasks, transportation, and countless appointments. Her devotion allowed him to remain as independent as possible for as long as he could. When his needs eventually exceeded what could be provided at home, Roddie became a resident of Pisgah Manor. There, he found not only exceptional care but also genuine compassion. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to "The A-Team," along with all of the nurses and his physical and speech therapists, whose kindness, encouragement, and unwavering support brought comfort and dignity to Roddie throughout his journey.

Roddie attended Pole Creek Baptist Church, where his faith remained an important part of his life. Above all else, he treasured his family. He shared a special bond with his beloved niece, Karli, and adored little Addy and Aria, who brought him immeasurable happiness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Troy Jacobs, and his sister-in-law, Brenda Jacobs.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Carolyn Jacobs of Candler, Alice Holmes (Randy Woodard) of Brevard, and Nancy Osteen of Leicester; his brother, Britt Jacobs of Leicester; and several nieces and nephews, along with many friends whose lives were made brighter by his humor, generosity, and gentle spirit.

A memorial service celebrating Roddie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Pole Creek Baptist Church.

Though his later years were marked by illness, they were also marked by extraordinary love, faithful caregivers, and the unwavering support of family and friends. He will be remembered not for the struggles he endured, but for the laughter he shared, the hands that built and repaired, the gardens he cultivated, and the generous heart that found joy in giving to others.

The care of Mr. Jacobs has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
