Robert Sorrells

Canton - Robert Edward Sorrells, 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at his home.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Jesse Thomas "Doc" and Lois Buchanan Sorrells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Sorrells, who died in 1991 and a son, Greg Sorrells. Many days, you could see Robert sitting in the stands cheering on his great-grandson in football. He was kind, considerate and a beloved, husband and papaw. Robert loved spending quality time with his family. He retired from Champion International with 42 years of service and served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by a son, Keith Sorrells of Shelby; one sister, Martha Lowe of Canton; a sister-in-law, Polly Myers of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Anthony, Daniel, Levi and Brittany Sorrells; and three great-grandchildren, Tanner, Bentley and Hunter Sorrells, Cayley and Braden.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
