Robert Matthew "Bobby" Shope, age 86, of the Mile Straight, Old US Highway 19/23, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Hobart and Bertha Miller Shope. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Reverend G. H. Shope Jr., Calvin Shope, and "Pete" Shope; three sisters, Hazel Young, Mabel Hooker, and Sue Belcher. He retired from Champion International with 41 years of service and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Stamey Shope; three children, Linda Keddington (Kevin) of Thomaston, Georgia, Pamela Clark (Frank) of Candler, and Kevin Shope of Candler; sister, Ruth Shope of Indiana; two brothers, James "Red" Shope (Gail) of Candler and David Shope (Nicie) of Candler; ten grandchildren: Justin Murray (Maria) of North Port, Florida, Wesley Shope (Ashley) of Brevard, Emberley Millen (Chris) of Meansville, Georgia, Amanda Shope of Arden, Jason and Lauren Keddington of Decatur, Georgia, Karl Keddington of Houston, Texas, Katie Keddington of Buford, Georgia, Jayson Clark of Columbus, Georgia and Sibrina Clark of Rosman. Ten great-grandchildren: Rosie, Kenny, Kyle and Chris Shope; Abby and Maddie Mackenzie, Haley and Mason Clark, Alex Millen and Rohan Keddington. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
