Robert Owen

Waynesville, Robert Davis "R.D." Owen, age 87, of 43 Tarheel Drive, died on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Grace Healthcare in Asheville. A native and resident of Haywood County for most of his life, he was the son of the late Hubert "Hub" and Zora Messer Owen. He was a former employee of WNC Paving and Landfill Supervisor for Haywood County. He is survived by two sons, Bobby and Jerry Wayne Owen of Waynesville; one daughter, Mary Owen, also of Waynesville; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Woodland Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends form 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, 545 Crabtree Road, Waynesville, NC 28785. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
