Obituary

Robert Lee Mason, Jr., affectionately known as Robbie, passed away on May 14, 2026, in the very place where his story began—Haywood County, North Carolina. Born on June 5, 1969, Robbie’s life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and connection.

Robbie built his career as a commercial electrician, quietly illuminating businesses throughout the area with his skilled hands and unwavering dedication. His work brought light not only to buildings but to the lives of those around him. He was known for his friendly nature, getting along with everyone he met and always ready to lend a helping hand. Many remember him stopping to assist drivers who had run out of gas, a simple act of kindness that spoke volumes about his generous spirit.

Beyond his work, Robbie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing in lakes, oceans, and rivers, a passion he shared by giving away his catch so others could enjoy the fruits of his labor. His sense of community extended further as he bowled regularly at Sky Lanes, played golf alongside his father, and expressed his love for dance through clogging with the Dixie Darlin' Cloggers. These pastimes brought a fullness to his life that friends and family treasured.

Life tested Robbie’s strength when an accident at work left him with a broken back, leading to a grueling journey of recovery. Multiple surgeries on his back, neck, shoulders, arms, and legs followed, painting days with pain and hardship. Yet, through every challenge, Robbie’s kindness never faltered; he remained the warm, giving soul who found reasons to care beyond his own struggles.

A devoted member of Dellwood Baptist Church, he lived his life by faith. He was also a passionate fan of Clemson University, his home radiated the vibrant orange of his beloved Tigers. The colors he cherished reflected the vitality he carried within, a beacon of hope and loyalty.

Robbie leaves behind a loving daughter, Addison Leanna Mason of Waynesville; his mother, Laney Constant Mason of Waynesville who remains a pillar of strength, care, and comfort; his brother, Jimmy Dean Mason, and nephews, James Pitts and Ethan Mason, continue to remember the warmth and laughter he gifted abundantly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Mason, Sr., and his sister, Tammy Gaddis, whose memories live on in the hearts Robbie touched throughout his life.

A memorial service to honor the life of Robert will be announced at a later date.
