Maggie Valley

Maggie Valley – Robert Bruce Burnette, 79, began his upward journey, fully at peace to be with our Heavenly Father, on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center.

Bruce was a native of Haywood County and a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Savannah Mae Metcalf Burnette.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Burnette; a grandson, Christopher West; and a brother, Johnny Burnette.  Bruce was raised on a dairy farm and loved to watch NASCAR, especially Kyle Busch, with a Coca Cola in his hand.  He was employed with the state of North Carolina as a Trooper for several years.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Moody (Tony) and Sherry Lowe (Eddie), all of Canton; one sister, Judy Abel (Doug) of Canton; and three grandchildren, Amelia Shook (Chris), Brian West, and Eli Shook.

The family wishes to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care given to Bruce.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.

The care of Mr. Burnette has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
