Maggie Valley, Robert Frederick Bain, 89, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Smoky Mountain Heath and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Henry Franklin and Laura Tilly Bain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Mae Bain; two brothers, Henry Franklin Bain, Jr. and Richard "Dick" Bain, and infant brother John Edmund Bain. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea during peacetime.
Robert grew up in Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin Rapids, WI. He has graduate degrees in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Minnesota and George Washington University. Robert worked for the Federal Government for a number of years as a budget analyst and in human resource development at the national Bureau of Standards and the Civil Service Commission. After leaving the government he worked as an independent consultant in occupational safety, and then retired to his beloved Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, and watching sports on TV.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Bain; daughter, Karen Bain; two sons, David and Richard Bain; two Grandchildren, Laura Kriete-Bain, and Tony Baker (Amanda); and several nieces and a nephew.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer.
