Richard Medford

Waynesville, Richard Taylor Medford, age 83, of Jonathan Creek, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his home. Dick was the son of the late Bryan and Lena Howell Medford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Green Medford, of 35 years, who went to be with her Lord in 1997; two brothers, Tom and Asbury Medford; and a sister, Lou Martin. Dick was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He retired from the Department of Transportation in 1996 with 26 years of service. Farming and gardening was a way of life growing up and he continued to grow tobacco until 2014. He enjoyed fly fishing in his early years at Cataloochee. He also enjoyed meeting up with a group of locals at J-Creek café to eat breakfast and discuss a variety of topics. Dick is survived by his sons, Alan Medford, and his wife, Lisa, of Morristown, Tennessee; Mike "Whitey" Medford, and his wife, Glenda, of Jonathan Creek; and a surviving sister, Mildred Turner, of Crabtree. He enjoyed spending time with family and was especially proud of his grandchildren, Taylor, Travis, Lindsey and Dalton. A celebration of life with immediate family will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
